Most of the FX plugins had a consistent GUI apart from some like Space Designer etc, and they still do but there are also other newer plugins that have interfaces a bit more skeumorphic (eg Amp Designer etc). It's a pity Opcode was assimilated by the Borgson collective and that gorgeous code shelved. Everything I did in it was buttery smooth. It has some utterly brilliant features that wowed me more than any other sequencer that I've used, before or since. From there I moved to Performer/Digital Performer which was ok, but then to Logic just before Apple bought them. It was my favorite sequencer, and I only left because Gibson (the company where music tech goes to die) bought opcode and deep-sixed it. I think we downplay a bit how much different sequencers can effect the natural results that occur with no thought, its why people still use trackers etc and why i use a number of different sequencers from old to new, they all have their merits.Įvery now and again, I get the hankering to go back to Opcode, Studio Vision Pro. Įmagic creator is a good example of this, Abletons the best to mimic it but i still find creator has some magic nothing else does.

Įmagic creator i still find very unique for odd time signature jumps and polyrhythmic stuff and just a certain feel / structure and i have tried to mimic it in Ableton but it feels different. If you hanker back to that time, it's probably not so much the tools you're missing, but the methods and interactions of that style of working - which are still totally achievable today - and is a lot easier too!Not sure, i get some of what your saying but every time i boot an atari and creator i seem to get a specific feel and vibe to a track, when i go to cubase 8 i seem to get something different no matter how much i try, i guess its how different sequencer workflows encourage different approaches. I mean, I get the Atari ST nostalgia (I'm just as guilty of that) but the reality is that it was great for it's time, but that time was looong ago, and modern stuff simply is way better.
